Hurricane Irma Response
In late 2017, Hurricane Irma devastated the Caribbean — the Turks & Caicos Islands in particular. South Caicos was hit with the eye of the storm, pummeling the island with 185 mph winds, storm surges, and flooding. While there were no casualties reported from the island, the damage was quite extensive, completely destroying communities and infrastructure that are still struggling to repair themselves to this day.
In the aftermath of the storm, the South Caicos Heritage Foundation was established. In times of crisis, funds will be driven to directly to basic recovery requirements for the 900 residents of South Caicos island.
